Mike Hardy – Sad News

The club was made aware this afternoon that Mike Hardy passed away on Sunday evening,

Mike’s sons were with him at the end and he was pain free listening to Louis Armstrong being played

Many of you will know that Mike had a heart problem over the last two years and he was finally admitted to hospital last week. Although the operation itself went well there was a complication and Mike finally lost the fight on Sunday evening.

Mike’s son Tim may well come down to the Club on Thursday evening, perhaps this week or next to pass the information on.

If he does come down and you are there then please make him welcome and he will actually want to talk about Mike.

The club has passed its condolences onto the family..

There are no details for the funeral yet, although it is likely to be late March but the club will post them here as soon as we have them.

Mike has been a Stalwart of Luton AC for so many years and will be a huge loss to the club.  He held many roles although most notably he was club secretary and officials’ secretary for many years.  He was also the key organiser of many home matches, both Track and Field and Cross Country. I simply called him Mr Luton AC a few years back when presenting him with a long service award from England Athletics.

He provided encouragement to many at Luton AC, including Athletes but also officials and Club committee members.

Of course it went wider than that as he was also active within the county, especially being Field Referee at the county champs for many years and he was also a National Level official

A very sad day for his family and Luton AC

Paul.
